Rosenbauer/Spartan 1500/500 101′ Cobra Platform
Southport Fire Department, Brunswick County, North Carolina
SOUTHPORT- The Southport FD in Brunswick County, NC has taken delivery of a new 101′ Cobra Platform built by Rosenbauer. The truck has been designated as Tower 361. This is Southport’s second Rosenbauer, having purchased a Pumper back in 2006.
The truck was built on a Spartan Gladiator with special AT coversion that gives the FD more room in the crew cab area. The cab is set up to carry six fire fighters. Drivelin includes a 525hp CAT C13 engine and an Allison EVS transmission. The pump is a Waterous rated at 1500 gpm that will supply two TFT wireless electronic monitors. The all aluminum body from Rosenbauer carries 500 gallons of water and features various tool shelves, trays and pull out tool boards. There is a stokes basket storage box on the base section of the ladder and a two bottle breathing air system. A Harrison hydraulic generator is mounted in the dunnage area over the pump pane.
This truck is loaded with operational and safety features, many of which are Rosenbauer exclusives. Prehaps most important is the Rosenbauer “Smart Aerial” electronics. This allows the truck to be short jacked but locks out unsafe moves, provides body collision avoidance, ramping aerial controls for smooth operation, load management and auto bedding among other things. The “Smart Aerial” controls monitor all aerial functions 16 times a second. The truck is completely operational from the Rosenbauer Aerial Command Seat and a joystick controller. Controls in the Platform bucket are a conventional three lever system. All ladder and waterway nozzle operations are also controlable from Rosenbauer’s wireless remote control system which is the only two way remote system in the industry. The torque box houses all ladders and pike poles and is hot dipped galvanized to fight corrosion and assure a long life. The jack tubes and jacks are also hot dipped galvanized. Each jack has a color code system visible from main control pedestal that provides the operator with a guide during short jack operations. Access from the ground to the aerail command pedestal is made more safe with the use of Rosenbauer’s “Smart Step Ladder System.” The truck is also outfitted with Rosenbauer’s “EZ Load Hosebed” which will keep Southport fire fighters from climbing on top of the truck to reload supply hose. Special lighting includes a dual strand of LED ladder lights, a RotoRay, Mars lights, and Rosenbauer’s flip down steps that have integrated LED lighting. The truck is equipped with a back up camera.
